Hippo explores the upbringing of two cousins: Hippo, a video game-addicted teenager, and Butterfly, a Hungarian Catholic immigrant with a love of classical music and Jesus. Like the ancient Greek Aphrodite, Butterfly’s love is unrequited by her brother, who prefers to indulge in the arts of war and chaos. The result is a hormone-fueled tragicomic waking nightmare that has to be seen to be believed.
