April Fools!

Breakfast Pranks That’ll Make Them Giggle

An April Fools breakfast is one of those things that seems completely and utterly frivolous, doesn’t it? So naturally, this means I love it! And I don’t just mean capital L-ove it. I mean all caps L-O-V-E it.

This Sunday, let’s all celebrate frivolity with some breakfast silliness. Below are four of my favorite ideas for starting April Fools day off right—with a giggle!

For this you’ll need:
a hollowed out egg*
a strip of paper that will fit inside the egg when rolled
confetti
egg cup

Step 1
Write your message on the strip of paper. Roll it up and tuck it into the egg.

Step 2
Fill with confetti. Optional: you can tape or glue a bit of tissue paper to the bottom of the egg if you notice the confetti falling out. I cut up bits of Easter basket filler to use as confetti. It stayed in nicely without having to seal the egg. I’m a lazy crafter.

Step 3
Flip egg over and place in egg cup.

*While there are super clever ways to hollow out an egg, I just used what I had on hand. So I used a metal skewer to make a small opening in the bottom of the egg, widened it a bit and shook out the yolk and whites. Make sure you rinse the egg out well and let it dry completely before you put in the paper.

For this you’ll need:
a milk jar*
milk
packet of gelatin

Step 1
Heat up the milk. Get it hot but not boiling.

Step 2
Mix in the gelatin until it’s dissolved.

Step 3
Let it cool. Note: this one takes some advanced prep. It’ll take a couple hours for the gelatin to set.

*Where’d I get that milk bottle from?! Why it’s a Starbucks frappacino bottle. Did you see they come in two sizes now? I used the larger one. Peel off the stickers, apply a little goof off to remove all the sticky residue (just make sure you open a window because PU!) and code printed on the bottle, wash and you have yourself a cute little milk jar. Aww!

For this you’ll need:
A banana
clean needle
thread

option 2
A banana
a needle or pin longer than the width of the banana

Step 1
Okay, so here’s the thing with the sliced banana in its skin trick. There are actually two different ways you can do it. They’re probably best seen in video form. I tried both and found option 2 to be slightly easier. BUT if you do it, enter through the side ridge not the back. The back seam cracks apart pretty easily.

For this you’ll need:
a can of crescent rolls
butter
cinnamon
brown sugar
powdered sugar
milk
a mini muffin tin

Step 1
I’m going to go ahead and link to where I got this recipe from. It’s from Iowa Girl Eats. I’ve seen April Fools miniature food ideas before (Martha had a great one about using quail eggs which I thought was brilliant) but these little cinnamon rolls were so achingly adorable I just couldn’t resist. And the kids L-O-V-E-D them. I think it helped that I put them on a great big old plate.

So there you have it! A breakfast spread to punk your family. Chose one prank or be superfluous like me and choose them all. Happy pranking!
